Hey, I have been joined for a coffee and cake by BL Maxwell, the Author of the successful Ghost Hunted. She has agreed to come along and chat with me to give us a little insight into her world.
So, an online coffee this time Barb, Tell us a little bit about your background and how you came to write M/M fiction?
I grew up in a really small town of 595 people with a grandfather that loved to tell us stories of “the olden days”. I have always been a reader, but until I read the Twilight series I don’t remember reading any book more than once. After I’d read Twilight too many times to admit, I found a blog post that suggested fanfiction. I was just as obsessed with it as I was with Twilight. Then I discovered MM fanfiction and never looked back. Now that’s pretty much the only genre I read.
I have to admit I've never read fan fiction but I think I should try some, I always find it interesting to know how writers start out in this business. Twilight grabbed a lot of people's attention. What would you say is your greatest success story so far?
I I would say my first book Better Together. So many people were kind enough to tell me how much they enjoyed it and how much it touched them, which meant so much to me. I was even entered into a writing contest by a total stranger that thought it deserved to be considered.
That's fantastic and such an honour to be entered in the competition. Now we all need a little help when we start out, I have met some fantastic Indie Authors who have given me good advice and helped keep me focused.
Who in the M/M community has help you on your journey?
My friend Nic, I met her on a Twilight fanfic forum where we would go and discuss the latest updates. She went on to become a very successful MM writer and has remained one of my very best friends. She’s encouraged me, calmed me down, and helped me just by being such a good friend. I don’t know if I would’ve actually written a book, let alone published it, without her encouragement and help.
Another fan fiction Author I think I have come across Nic on my Facebook travels.
Do you still have a day job or are you a full time Author?
I do, I’m a hairstylist two days a week, and I homeschool my son. Both keep me pretty busy, but I’m a night owl. So I mostly write at night or when my son is in class.
If only I had hair to be styled, lol here’s a couple of quick fire questions for you.
Whats is your favourite curse word?
Fuck, it’s been my favorite for as long as I can remember. I try to not use it when I write but I can’t help it.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Archaeologist, I want to go out on an actual dig, in the middle of the jungle in Mexico, and see Mayan ruins as their being uncovered.
Ok, here's a cheeky one on a scale of one to ten, how weird are you?
I would say a 5 but my family would probably say a 10.
Nothing wrong with a little weirdness every now and then.
The M/M community has its up’s and down’s. But what are some specific things you would advise newbies to watch out for in the community?
Get a good editor and watch out for people who say they’re an editor but are not.
Thats great advice, there are people that claim to be editors because they have read a few books, so be careful. Let me throw in a couple more quick fire questions for you.
What was the last movie you watched at the cinema?
Incredibles 2 ,
I haven't seen this one, I did enjoy the first movie though.
What was the last book you read?
Dream by Garrett Leigh
Love the cover I must add it to my TBR.
I have to say meeting you today has been good and you are doing a good job so far, What is coming up for you on the horizon?
I’m working on edits right now on a collaboration with Claire Castle, about a bakery competition. I’m also working on a road trip story and I’ve started the second book in my Ghost Hunted series.
That will keep you busy, lastly before we say goodbye, How do our visitors get in touch with you?
I’m always available on FaceBook, I have a Twitter account but haven’t set it up yet. Here’s my other links:

Blurb:
Jason Thomas had always been obsessed with the ghost stories he'd watched on television from the time he was a kid. He'd always dreamed of visiting those haunted places, and playing amateur ghost hunters with his best friend Wade.
As they grew older, Jason's fascination with ghosts grew as well, and he'd drag Wade along to different haunted houses or hotels, always hoping to see an actual ghost.Wade Rivers loved spending time with Jason, even if it meant he'd have to endure another creepy, supposedly haunted location.
Friends since they were kids, and always inseparable, Wade's feelings for Jason deepened from friendship into something more. Unfortunately, so did his fear of the places Jason wanted to explore. The chance to spend a weekend alone in a famous haunted house was too much for Jason to resist, and almost too much for Wade to endure. He knew going to the deserted house was everything Jason had ever dreamed of, so Wade tried to put his fears aside. But when paranormal things start to happen, admitting to Jason how he feels suddenly isn't the scariest thing Wade will encounter.

Blurb:
Since being thrown out of his home by his parents, Caden has been struggling to survive on the streets. He lives in constant fear, stresses over his next meal, and dreads trying to find a safe place to sleep at night. He eventually finds an unlocked car and settles in to sleep, but is soon interrupted when someone steals the car. With little choice but to ride along, Caden soon learns that first impressions aren’t always correct. Seventeen-year-old Damario has been raising his little brother and sister by himself since his parents were deported. He never knew how hard it was going to be paying the bills and making sure there was always food on the table. Or how hard it would be to hold his family together when they all depended on him to do it. He finds himself stealing cars to make ends meet, but he never expected to find someone sleeping in the back of one of them. And he really didn’t expect this stowaway to change his life. When Damario brings Caden home, it was supposed to be just for a shower and a hot meal, but he can hardly kick him out onto the streets again. There is no way he could have seen that by saving Caden that night, he was also saving himself. When Damario’s world starts to fall apart, they both realize that the answer to all of their problems is helping each other, and although the world tries to drive them apart, they really are better together.
